My grandfather, Charles Dawson, taken in 1915
My maternal grandfather's family came from the area of Great Driffield in East Yorkshire, England, a village which appeared in the Domesday Book as Driffield. The family appear to have been tradesmen - blacksmiths, farriers and millers. In the 1500s they were referred to as Yeomen.
As well as the information on the pedigree attached to this page, I have successfully traced the family back as far as 1556.
Dawson is, of course, not an uncommon name and there are many unrelated Dawsons out there. As far as I know, my family didn't move out of the Great Driffield area. If you're looking for Dawsons elsewhere, experience shows it's unlikely I will have anything in my own research that will help you. I have included advice and a list of links that might be useful on my site though - CLICK HERE to get to it.
