(Left to right) My grandfather, John Norton, taken about 1918,
my grandmother, Jane Olive Blanche Le Seelleur, taken about 1908,
and my father John Norton Le Seelleur, taken around the early 1930s.
(below) My grandfather and grandfather, taken around 1916.

My father's family originated in Jersey, in the Channel Islands. The family has been traced back to 1463 by family historians on the island, and there are possible links back to 1250. These indicate that before 1463 the family was called Le Repossey. They lived on Haye Hogard farm in the town of Villot on Jersey, which is still in possession of the family.
I am told by an expert in Norman French that Le Repossey means 'the displaced' or 'the disinherited', and Le Seelleur was initially a nickname, but became the name by which the family is still known.
A recent lead indicates that further back the name may also link to the Le Repossi family in Italy, possibly Milan. Le Repossi apparently means 'the wanderer', which fits quite nicely with the information above, so if anyone has any other thoughts about this, for or against the theory, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
I am happy to share this information if you email me, but would also like to hear from anyone who can help my own research. In particular I am looking for anything prior to 1463 to help me extend the tree.
If you want to share information (mine or yours) please contact me.
I haven't included an on-line pedigree for the Le Seelleurs, since my primary purpose in setting up this website is to offer and gather information about my mother's family.
However, if you are researching the Le Seelleurs too, feel free to contact me.
